To all the ALLIED/ENTENTE members of all GWHS Allied units ....
As you all know we are going to be starting to build the new trenches very soon, starting on February 18th.
The following is to take place on these dates that I know so far ...
February 18th, this will be the day that John Harmon, the Allied TrenchMaster, will be chaulking the new front-line trenches on the ground. To lay it all out with stakes/paint and ground markings will require a few people to make sure they get it all correct to the specifications John wants the line to look like. He said that the more that come out and help do this the better as it will help him get a feel for how the new layout will look.
His plans for the new front-line trench look awesome .. it will be based upon a saw tooth design which the Allied prefered over the typical German dog leg type. The saw tooth will allow everyone to overlap fire down upon every single inch of ground we occupy and see.
On March 10th, the backhoe will start the digging of both the CP and Allied front-lines only, nothing else will get done, just the front-lines, the secondary lines, communication trench and bunker emplacement area will come latter in the year.
March 24th ... This will be the weekend that the trenches will start to be built with wood revetments and cleaned up for such.
All three of these Dig Day weekend are important for all the Allied units to have a representative from evey unit there helping out doing this as if we have members from all various units there we can apply for money from the GWHS to buy materials for our said trench lines. We at this time can apply for $300 BUT to get this every single unit will have to have 1 member there, no exceptions.
We will need all Allied units involved and represented, this is not just a select few individuals to do the work, it has to be a GROUP effort on the Allied side. What we do not want to hear is this is mine and this is yours, yadda, yadda ... if you are not involved in the process you get what you put into it, nothing. Your unit will get what you are assigned and that can be changed as needed as the situation demands. The laying, building, working on the new trenches on the Allied side will be as whole Brigade not just individual units.
I am going to please ask, beg, pleade, etc. to every single one of you that live reasonably close enough to the site to go out to the site to help build the new site and get involved in the process. I realise that there are members like myself of the Allied side that are just too far away to come help come out and do this work but we can become involved in this process by making a donation to the GWHS for the site building, I did this by donating $100 to the cause and working with John on the new trench planning.
We will be adding secondary lines/bunkers/communication trenches/mortar and MG pits as time goes along at the new site, right now our priority is the front-line trenches and making sure that these are done correctly as once this in place there is no changing it because we made a mistake. I know John has left some area of the new front-lines for expansion in the future as the GWHS grows with new members into our established units.
If anyone has any questions, comments, etc. please do not hesitate to either contact me or John H, I am sure that between the both of us we can answer all the necessary stuff
Thanks
Patrick Hernandez
