I have a genuine gas mask can that is just plain bare metal (with a little surface rust...).

What was the usual color of the gas mask can?

The outside would have been Feldgrau, the inside gloss black.

Great! The inside of my canister still has the gloss black and the lenses in the paper sleeves up in the lid.
