This movie was based upon the Second Battle of Oituz that took place primarily in the Oituz valley in Bacau County, Romania (not Rumania, you spell it this way to a Romanian and they will chew you up, trust me my GF is from there) from August 8 to August 20, 1917 against both the Austro-Hungarians and Germans. The battle was a tactical stalemate.
There were quite a few movies on Romania in WWI one was called 'Ecaterina Teodoroiu' made in 1979, and this one called 'Triunghiul Mortii' made in 1999. I will ask my friends in Romania the names of the other films. Patrick

Thanks. 'Rumania' didn't look right but made it through spell check somehow. Ecaterina Teodoroiu in a Romanian national hero and was the subject of at least four films about her, three using her name in the title, in 1921, 1930, 1979 and 'Triunghiul Mortii' in 1999 (available on DVD, heaven knows what format) An article about her in Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ecaterina_TeodoroiuMore information on Romanian WW1 movies would be appreciated; I'm still compiling a list of all WW1 movies, and it's more than fifty pages now.

Roxana tells me that every women in Romania must read the book on Ecaterina Teodoroiu in school, she is a heroine to young women there, they celebrate her as much as they do Vlad Tepes (Vlad The Impaler). Roxana will see if she can get a copy of 'Triunghiul Mortii' with English sub-titles in Bucharesti for me She knows of some other movies done in Romania that deal with both WWI and WWII and get me a list of them. I know the one done recently on Vlad Tepes in last year was historically correct but very gorey, I will have to find the link to it she sent me on it, it was an excellent film and did have English sub-titles. The actor that played Vlad looked like his famous portrait and was very good in his role. Patrick
