Any suggestions for memoirs of day-to-day life in the trenches and on campaign for Tommy Atkins? I'm looking for a "Hardtack and Coffee" type book, but for WWI. Red and blue arrows on a map are all well and fine, and photos of men and mud tell a tale, but I'm looking for 1st person accounts, either letters home, or stories written down after returning home.
Any "must reads" or "must avoids?" on the reading list?

If you can find a copy, a book simply called "Tommy" is really good. I belive it has what you are looking for. But be prepared, the only places I have seen it are over in the UK and it is rather pricy. Hope that helps.

Thank you for the suggestion. I'll keep a look out for it.
