The LIR2 is a club in Linz, Austria, which is holding up the tradition of the Old Army - especially recreating the period of 1900 to 1918.
The club was formed in 1997 by a bunch of guys who all were interested in the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy and its Army.
Most of the 40 members we have today are Army personnell in real life too, but there are also civilians filling our lines as well.
The grades carried correspond for the most part to the actual active or militia grades in the Bundesheer (Austrian Federal Army), however, they can be adapted also to the function in the club.
The orders and medals carried by us were really lent to the respective bearer. Wearing historical medals such as medals of honor are not allowed due to our regulations.
Up to now we have participated in more than 400 events in Austria or the former Kronländer (Crown-Lands) besides our monthly meeting. On the traces of our military forefathers we are on the move from Galicia to Trento.
Every year we take part in big number of commemorative celebrations, parades, traditional days, arrangements of the Austrian Federal Army and museum visits just in addition like front celebrations in the former war zone.
Some of our companions are also very much engaged in the area "Museum". For instance, our companionProf. Mag. Reinolf Reisinger is curator for the Wehrkundliche collection of the Land OÖ (State of Upper Austria) and the manager of the army-historical museum Mag. Dr. Christian Ortner is also a "Linzer Zweier“.
The height in our club-history was the new acquisition of the historical regimental flag in November, 2002 with the worthy flag inauguration by his Excellency, the military bishop Mag. Christian Werner. In old tradition we could win your Highness princess Nadejda Starhemberg as flag godmother (hope thats right, didn't know a better word for that).
On our 90th regimental anniversary our newly purchased field altar (for which we had received a relic of the recently beatified emperor Karl directly from Rome) was blessed.
