Ah, but compare the running times listed, 107 minutes for the new IHF version, vs. 89 minutes for Reichslieder--patience, Grasshopper, patience! -Larry

Stosstrupp 1917 is an excellent movie! It's extremely authentic. Many of the "extras" were actual German soldiers "tasked" to work on the film. Apparently, many of the pyrotechnics were real. Because it was commissioned by the Nazis, for years it was "banned". Hence, the poor quality, chopped up versions that were "pirated" and made available. I have the "restored" copy from International Historical Films, with subtitling. It's a very good, clean copy, comparable in quality to a "restored" copy I purchased from German Amazon (with no subtitles).
I would say that this movie is on par with these other 1930s era German films: Douaumont: The Hell of Verdun, Unternehman Michael, and Westfront 1918.

IMHO, Stosstrupp 1917 is the best WWI movie from a reenactor's point of view. It's got no love story to cloud things up, and the uniforms, gear and action are all top-notch authentic. The new restrored version from International Historic Films can't be beat. Buy it, even if you're a Brit, Frog, Yank or Luigi!!
Another good film is Standschutze Bruggler. Woflgang recently lent it to me, and it's quite good. Italian Front in the Alps from the AH point of view.
