This end of the forum has been pretty quiet lately, so I thought I'd stir thing up with a sampling of Austro-Hungarian bayonets from my collection: Note the adjustable muzzle ring on the M88 bayonets, which allowed them to be used on M86, M88/90 and M95 rifles. Note the the cutting edge on M95 bayonets faces up when attached to the rifle. -Larry

Great group of bayonets. How are the Austrian/Hungarian bayonets marked? I need to pick one up, and don't want to purchase a bayonet that was exported to South America.

Hi Ron,
Most M95 bayonets are marked with the manufacturer on one side of the blade, usually "OEWG" or "FGGY," with either an imperial eagle or (less commonly) a Hungarian shield on the other side. There are several other manufacturers, but OEWG (Österreichische Waffenfabriks-Gesellschaft) is by far the most common, with FGGY (Fegyver es Gepyar) a distant second.
Most of the M95 bayonets on the market are going to be Bulgarian re-furbs, which will have black scabbards and EP'd serial numbers. You should be able to find one for about $30 (I think J&G Sales in Arizona still has some).
Feel free to e-mail or pm me with any questions.
-Larry
