Some time back I spoke to Tom Mattimore about re-poping the 1918 "Pershing" boots. He informed me due to their multi sole construction they would cost much more than the M1917 Trench Shoes. I'd be interested in seeing them made, but I can understand the amount of leather involved and the limited time frame the AEF used them. According to Tom they would not be very flexible as the 1917's are...They are beasts though...

I have photograpic evidence of the 1918 toe plate installed on 1917 shoes with the 20 extra hobnails I have three pair of original toe plates and may be able to get them cast in gun bronze which will hold up quite well, at least better than the aluminum heel plates commanly used on lower grade german ww2 foot wear. I may offer these an an option if I can size the models larger. Tom

Mr. Mattimore,
Keep us informed of the progress of this option. It sounds very interesting and would be an welcome addition to those of us looking for the 1918 shoe.

Mr Mattimore,
Would it be possible to "retro-fit" a pair of your 1917's I own with the toe caps and the extra hobnails?

Hello All, What is everyone using these days for boots? As a new (to WW1) re-enactor, the boots appear to be the most expensive item besides a weapon. I've run across 2 sources, one at $180 and the other at $260. As I live in South Carolina, there are no events nearby save for a timeline or two. I was just wondering what some other folks are using. Thanks, Jimmy

My boots are from Mattimore Harness. They fit perfectly and I've had no issues with them.

Thanks Oskar, that's kind of where I was leaning towards.
