I just purchased this holster for the Modèle 1892 Espangol, it has some Chinese charcters on the inside of the flap which is interesting. It does have some oil stains on it but it is all original and complete. This will make an excellent holster to go with my S&W Military and Police Révolver Modèle 1892 Espangol.
Question: What is the Révolver Modèle 1892 Espangol?
Well these revolvers were copies or derivatives of the Smith & Wesson Military and Police designed revolver all made without the formality of a license. These were often chambered for the American calibers .32-20 or .38 S&W Special and could easily bored to chamber the 8x27Rmm “Lebel” Revolver Ordnance cartridge. The barrels were also easily bored and rifled for the 8mm cartridge.
This revolver was a close copy of the S&W Military and Police Model which had a solid frame and a small curved recoil shield behind the cylinder. The grip has two checkered plates secured by a single screw and a lanyard ring is always present which is fastened to the base of the revolvers butt. The lockwork is accessed by removing the lock plate on the right side of the frame. This lockwork functions in either single or double action style by the use of a leaf-type mainspring. The cylinder swings out the left, is fluted and has a locking recesses around it. It is locked into place by two cylinder bolts acting on the cylinder axis pin. These locks are disengaged by a latch on the left side of the frame behind the recoil shield which allows the cylinder to be unlocked and swung out to the left. A manual star-type extractor accomplishes ejection empting all the expended cartridge case simultaneously. The front sight is a half moon blade type while the rear is a fixed notch machined on the top of the frame. All of these are blued and the makers name will be either on the top or side of the barrel.
These revolvers were made by Arizmendi Zualica y Cia, La Industria Orbea (Orbea Hermanos), Trocaolo Aranzabal y Cia and Guisaola Hermanos. Arizmendi Zualica y Cia monogram trademark was found on the bakelite grips. It barrel was rifled with 6 lands and grooves with a right-hand twist. The revolver was 9.6” (243mm) overall, 4.4” (109mm) barrel and weighed about 2 pounds (895 grams). La Industria Orbea grips were checkered wood or pressed horn. Barrels were rifled in either 4 or 6 lands and grooves with a right-hand twist. Overall length was 9.6” (243mm), barrel was 4.2” (111mm) and weighed 2 pounds (890 grams). Trocaolo Aranzabal y Cia and Guisaola Hermanos followed the lines of the two above makers.
