I could be mistaken, but I thought I saw somewhere that Brit 303 long blanks can be used in the Steyrs. Is that true? Hi Marshall, .303 blanks will fit in Steyr clips, and will chamber and extract OK. The rims are a bit too small, so they don't feed well in my Steyrs, though they work fine in others. I've had much better luck using full-length 7.62 x 54R blanks. -Larry PS--I'm up for a Lytle Creek Expedition, and I'd love to do The Guns of August this year (as long as I can get some range time in beforehand).

No kidding--the lowest setting on my Steyr's sight is 300 schritten (225 meters). I'll probably use my (Steyr built) 7mm Mauser (as issued to the Seebaon. Trieste) for the serious shooting -Larry PS--we'll be expecting a "mad minute" demonstration!

... Consider it done! OK.. lets have a fun day shall we? As such.. I'm throwing out a challenge! The famous Mad Minute. As we all know, the 'Old Contemptables', the original pre-WW1 British Army were trained to fire x15 well aimed shots in less than x1.minute, at a target x300.yds away. Many could fire x30.rds within that time, some more. Here is an original 'Range Course' booklet of the period, and the actual recruits 'Mad Minute' practice... I'll bring all of my SMLE's to the range ( I have x5), and those who want to take up the challenge, may choose to fire any SMLE from my selection, and I'll even let those challengers pick the one they would like me to fire. The challenge is....... Mad Minute... x30.rds.... x300.yds... prone unsupported position ( lying - no support other than own hands). Bring your own ammunition, and if ANYONE beats my number of rds fired ( to hit the target)... the individual with the highest number fired / hits on target over mine...... I'll PAY for their .303 ammunition used in the challenge! How about making it an annual challenge, with a small trophy that is passed on to the winner each year? So.. this will separate the Shooters from the Couch Potatoes!.... Who wouldst pick up mine Gauntlet? ;D ;D ;D

One Schritt equaled approximately .75 meters (29.5 inches) The rear sight calibration consisted of a combat setting of 500 Schritten (375 meters) when the leaf was fold down. An additional combat setting of 300 Schritten (225 meters) was on the bottom of the sight leaf range when flipped up and slider was fully on the bottom of the leaf, then other ranges ran from 600 through 2600 Schrittens (450 - 1950 meters).
Schrittens - Meters - Yards 300 - 225 - 246 500 - 375 - 410 600 - 450 - 492 800 - 600 - 656 1000 - 750 - 820 1200 - 900 - 984 1400 - 1050 - 1148 1600 - 1200 - 1312 1800 - 1350 - 1476 2000 - 1500 - 1640 2200 - 1650 - 1804 2400 - 1800 - 1969 2600 - 1950 - 2133

I just picked up an M95 from Big 5 today, you can still get them for $99.00 but they have to draw them from inventory warehouses. The clerk said that they won't be getting any more in, and the 99 dollar price is as low as they will go.When they're gone, they're gone!
