All,
I'll be visiting the Western Front in summer and would like to pay respects to the men who fought there, visit some of the battlefields, and see where flyers of the era did their deeds. I have guide books to help with visits to the trenches and a few air fileds. Any advice on what to do, not do, or other info from those that have tred the ground would be very helpful.
Cheers, Mike Stuckey

Thank you for the ideas Seph!
As for the "junk" of the battlefields, the only thing I might pick up is some wire. The rest can rest. I will look for the publications you mentioned, are they available in the US?
The Gate is a must. I saw a special that hosted the place and vets about 10 or more years ago and I was almost teary just watching that.
As for meetings, I am up for it. Maybe we should look to some personal messages for such. My email is dukefan101@yahoo.com. We should look to schedules and such. Geoff is in Provance (sp?) so I am not sure that we will be able to arrange anything.
A report and photos will come - I promise.
You are very kind to offer assistance. I will be in your debt - at leat for a wee dram to start, old boy.
Regards, Mike

Use caution picking up stuff from battlefields-- not only ordinance, but you may be violating laws regarding removal of items from national parks and battlefields. When I was touring battlefields in France, there were items to be seen poking up, but we left them alone-- better to have no souvenirs than to do jail time in a foreign land-- even if they serve wine in the prison meals.

That would be a red faced thing for a park ranger from the US to be picked up as a law breaker of such a stripe!
Advice taken...
Cheers, Mike

Any plans to swing by the Meuse-Argonne and/or St. Mihel Battlefields? If you do, please get some pictures.

Adam, Yes, the Argonne is on the list. One spot in particular will be the site of the Lost Battalion. I have two large photo cards and plan to fill them both up. Mike
