I came across this on YouTube:
Part 1 of a never broadcast documentary on the history of U.S. combat helmets from 1917 to present. Includes many experimental helmet designs and manufacturing information. Covers WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom.

Excellant Adam... thank you so much for posting the video. I've been telling collectors and various individuals for quite a number of years, that the US camouflage and divisional sign painted Brodies were post-war. All I've been getting is a shrug of the shoulder, a dirty look, and a comment like: "What do you know?"
Its great to se that my information has now been verified.. so-to-speak!
I did not know about the US battalions wearing the French Adrian... a gap in my knowledge filled!
Well Done..
Is there a look forward to Part-2?

Parts 2-6 are available on YouTube for your viewing pleasure. I didn't post them here since they move away from WWI but they're worth watching for the information.
The whole divisional insignia thing was done after the war by soldiers returning home from France. In fact, may Doughboys set up thriving side-businesses painting the appropriate insignia to order (rumor has it that a young Walt Disney and a partner made a tidy profit from this). This was also done with German helmets and everytime you see one for sale with a camoflauge pattern, you have to question it.
