Basically, the Canadians couldn't meet our price so they opted for the cheapie route...

Sounds like a good story. What happened?

Fritz Bronner, one of our members, was attempting to put the deal together and basically the Canadians didn't want to pay our airfare and lodging up there. The other thing they balked on was weapons rental since it would have been a major pain to ship rifles (all the BS Canadian paperwork and 9-11 paranoia). IIRC, filming was supposed to be somewhere not too far away from Toronto. They somehow expected us to show up magically and then disappear... That's pretty much what I know of it.

Hmmm... cheepo route is right. The GWHS would have been the only ones with correct '08' webbing belt buckles. In the film, the Canadians are useing '38' webbing belts, complete with front snap buckles. If I could work out how to post a pic on here, I'd post a couple of the press release pics of the actors in uniform.
Apart from those like ourselves who know the historical accuracy of the equipment used, I don't think the layman will notice.

I've seen the film ;D Without giving anything away it starts off pretty good slows down to a snail during the romance and then throws you back in the thick of it. There is one very ridiculous love scene in the rear lines seriously very sickening and stupid.
The lead wears his 08 dress belt upside down throughout the whole film. Otherwise a pretty good effort with very realistic battle scenes.
