If when the M1916 helmet was first adopted with mountings for the then issued Pickelhuber(sp)chin strap did the KuK include the mountings on their helmets? Did the Germans send M1916s to the KuK with pickelhube(sp)straps, and over time the KuK replaced them or the liner system?
Now the KuK helmet I have has no markings but has the mounting lugs. If with the M1918 the Germans stop putting lugs on the shell, why did the KuK continue to do so?

Initially, the Germans supplies M16 helmet shells to the Austrians, who repainted them and replaced the M91 (pickelhaube style) chinstrap mounting posts with bales and their own cloth chinstraps. Some were issued with the M91 posts and the cloth chinstrap adapted to fit the posts. Austrian-produced (M17) helmets have the rivet for the chinstrap bales mounted higher than on the German M16. Austrian-produced helmet never had the M91 lugs.
