GWHS 1st Annual Eastern Front Event

We would like to announce the 1st Annual Great War Historical Society (GWHS) WWI Eastern Front Battle Event to take place on the weekend of September 28 and 29, 2013 at King’s Crossing Battlefield.
The battle event that will take place will be based on the 1916 Russian ‘Brusilov Offensive’ on the Southwestern Front by the Russian 8th Army against the combined German and Austro-Hungarian 4th Army in Galicia.

The following units will be represented for this battle:
1. Imperial Russian Army / Ру́сская импера́торская а́рмия:
195th ‘Orovaisk’ Infantry Regiment … 195-й Пехотный Оровайский Полк

All firearms / weapons, uniforms, accoutrements and equipment will meet with the standards of the above units during this time frame of the battle. Please get with the unit commanders of the above units for the Armament/Uniform/Equipment Regulations of that unit.
Individuals and /or units from other WWI Eastern Front groups who attend this battle must be appropriate for the scenario that originally fought in this battle.
Individuals and / or Units that did not exist or that were not at this battle during this time frame will not be allowed to participate in this battle.

This Eastern Front is a GO ... we will be using King'ss Crossing Battlefield for it
One stipulation that must be made ... All those attending the event must be or become members of the GWHS and must belong to one of the GWHS WWI Western Front Units in order to participate.

I will also start posting here and the GWHS forum after this weekend on battle, dinner, dues, etc. for everyone. We will be having a combined dinner (BBQ) with all who attends that event

I just got a call from Patrick Hernandez who is up at the site. When he checked in at Tony's Bar, Tony's wife informed him that per order of the fire department, there are to be NO FIRES WHATSOEVER. This also includes pyrotechnics.

Camp stoves are permitted but naturally the usual precautions and safeguards apply (a fire extinguisher is recommended). Please pass this along ASAP.

Well, the First GWHS East Front has happened and from the feedback I've received, people were pleased with the way it went. Although we had low numbers (to be expected) and we had to improvise a bit and use our imaginations, people really pulled together and it worked out great.

While we were especially light on Germans, it's still good in that this really gives both the Russians and Austro-Hungarians the chance to stand out and I think that goes a long way to keeping the memory of WWI alive and preserving the history.

So, while it may seem a tad premature, let's start thinking about next years' event. Also, perhaps there are some other living history opportunities that might present themselves so let's keep this going.
