As we are approaching the Battle Event in a few weekends I would like to remind all those who are going as French reenactors to remember to get period type haircut and such for the event.
The standards are listed here for how to look like a French poilu of the period ...

I am sure that all units will be requiring the men in thier units do the same, please make sure to get with your unit leaders to find out what the requirements are for your unit on this policy.
We want to make sure we look period for the event on this issue
One thing to remember is we are going to be getting alot of photographs of this battle to show that the GWHS is back into full swing of WWI reenacting and those pictures will be used to help recruit new people into the GWHS that are wanting to reenact WWI now that the 100th is coming up next year.
We want to make sure that the people in these photographs we use look the period we are portraying, we do not want to give new recruits the impression that just because they lived in the trenches for months at a time that they did not cut thier hair and such which was far from the truth, they kept thier hair to a standard due to lice and such. We also must show that the men did keep thier hair, beards and moustaches groomed due to that and yes they did clean thier uniforms when they had a chance, they were not dirty all the time, they did bath when they had a chance to do so, just like the military does now.
Frank will be bringing clippers and Taisho will be bringing a straight razor to the event ... It is either get it done prior to the event or get it done at the event, either way no one will participate without regulation of the army they are portraying haircuts or facial hair. We are not ACW, Rev War, WWII, Medieval ... we are WWI ... nothing kills a WWI period reenactment than seeing people with long hair.
Thanks
Patrick
