Trying to locate information on the activity of this Battalion in France, 1916. I have a relative who died will serving while serving with them. Every web site I've gone to lists the unit being formed in 1914 in Lithlithgow and then being moved to Berwick. The first overseas activity is Russia in 1918, according to what's posted. Does anyone know when the unit went to France and when it left. My relative died on the 2nd OCTOBER 1916 and is buried at Heilly Station Cemetery.

www.ww1daleboys.com/territorials.htmIt looks like they just served as Coastal Defense during the war until it was sent to Ireland and latter Russia. Your relative must have transfered to another unit in the war and was killed serving with them. Patrick

I got with my friend ... he said this ...
Inform him to start with a site called:- The Long Long Trail. Then, get in touch with the 'Royal Regiment of Scotland'. He can address his enquiries to thier, and they should be able to direct him to the relevant sourse. Also, if he knows the mans:- Name, Rank, Regiment, Service Number, he should join one of the online geneology site like Ancestry.com. He wil need to find, through Ancestry, the mans medal cards. Everything stems from there. Give him my email: sarnt.major@rocketmail.com

Thanks Patrick, I'm already with Ancestry, that's how I got into this. I was checking on family members who died in service and have been gathering up the details on the 97 individuals I've gotten so far. I found the Long Long Trail before I got here, I'll go back and see if there's a logical explanation for a why a man shows he's on Coastal Defence in Berwick dies in battle in France.
