This is very important to the plans we are going to be building the trenches with as get a feel of the units that will need space as it will determine the number of firebays, communication trenches, mortar/MG pits, bunkers, etc. that will be placed in the line of trenches. Once the plans are finalized and the stuff dug there will not be room to add new stuff to the system just because someone wants it to be done ... so now is the time to speak up and wanted to be added to the trench plans. We do not want to be crowded like we were at Ozena where very little room was provided.

I am going to be forward and straight to the point on the issue of helping of building the new site.
If your unit is not involved in the building of the site either by doing the work, planning, or donations please do not expect to be going to the site at the events there and expect things that you would like to see built or done in the section of trenches. Your unit will only get what you put into it and that is all which is basically nothing, you will be assigned an area that you will be in which can be subject to change from event to event as the Allied Brigade Commander deems needs looking after for that event. As I previously stated …. we do not want to hear is this is mine and this is yours stuff, we want this and that, it is not going to happen unless you put into it and if that is nothing then except nothing in return. If you want input into something at the site then plan on getting up to site by doing some work or donating to the cause, plain and simple. Speak up now and say 'This unit wants space in the new trench system' ... do not wait till the last minute to say so by then it is too late.
There will be no unauthorized digging/building/construction of anything at the site as well, as now everything has to go through the Allied Trench Master, John H, who has to approve all the above of the said items and in turn has to get approval from the GWHS Board which reserves the right to require changes or removal if the final digging and/or construction does not conform to that approved on this form and its attached drawings. We are only allowed to go the site on specific days to do all the construction of the site and at no other time, so thinking that you will just be able to go up there and do work will not fly. This can get the GWHS as whole in trouble with the land owner where he can just decide that he wants us gone and shut us out of the site.
As to building on site on Saturday before the event starts … I know that a lot of units decide to do a ton of construction just before the battle begins, while this is great, it's ultimately disruptive in that it takes people away from other necessary preparations and organization meetings and can be impossible to round up members that need to attend the meeting/safety brief before the battle begins, which is mandatory for every single member of the GWHS to attend that is present at the site. While some maintenance activities such as filling sandbags and re-stringing barbed wire is to be expected and OK, wholesale construction really should have been done long before on Saturday morning, it is kind of like cramming the night before an exam, it is way too late.
Again I am going to stress … We will need all Allied units to get involved and represented, this is not just a select few individuals to do the work, it has to be a GROUP effort on the Allied side, one from every unit in the Allied side of the GWHS or we will not be able to apply for money from the GWHS to buy materials for our said trench lines.

OK ... All units have replied to this request and WANT SPACE in this new Allied Trench System so with this in mind please be sure that all the units will do thier part in this all with the above posts. We will have sections of trench reserved for each unit and those units will be sectioned within thier respective sectors of groups ... British Expeditionary Forces / Commonwealth Forces, Bataillon Français and American Expeditionary Forces and Others. Each sector will be commanded by a Sector Commander that the Overall Allied Commander will pick to lead that section of the trenchs who will report to him for relaying orders, battle plans, meetings and such in the field who will then relay to the unit commanders those orders, just like in the real world military. I am going to highly encourage all unit commanders to get all thier members, new recruits, etc. in thier units to pay thier Annual GWHS Membership dues for 2013 as the money that they pay for this is going towards these new trenches to help pay for the person who will be doing the digging with backhoe as well as buying supplies for the trenches to build them up as we go along in the project. Also you must be a a paying member of the GWHS to participate at any GWHS Battle Events or Sanctioned GWHS Events. Even if you are going to not be at this up-coming March (Spring) Battle Event these dues are important for the above reasons. To pay your membership dues there are two ways of doing this, by PayPal or by sending a check or money order by mail to the GWHS Treasurer. To pay by PayPal please go to this link and follow the instructions on it to do so ... www.gwhsww1.org/organization.htmlTo pay by mail please send that check or money order made, to Great War Historical Society, please do not abbreviate the name as GWHS, it must be in full, to the following address ... Great War Historical Society 5306 Tampa Ave. Tarzana, Ca. 91356 In both of these options to pay please include your full first, middle initial and last name, full home address, contact phone number, contact email address and unit affliation (unit you belong too) If you have new recruits in your unit please make sure to have them fill out both the GWHS Membership Form and GWHS Liability Form and send them both to the following address ... Great War Historical Society P.O. Box 6322 Los Osos, Ca. 93412 www.gwhsww1.org/Great%20War%20Historical%20Society%20membership%20form.pdfwww.gwhsww1.org/ReleaseGWHS.pdfThanks, Patrick

I would please ask that members of the GWHS who are going to the up-coming WWI Western Battle Event in March to get thier Annual Membership Dues and any other paperwork required ASAP to the above as those two persons as they will be busy trying to get stuff sorted out at the event and really would like to get as much time in the trenches as everyone else so they do not have to track down people to fill out forms, pay for either dues or battle form and fees. Speaking of Battle Form and Battle Fees ... If you are going to the event you can now print out and fill out the following form in the link to do so It will also help each group (Allies / CP) know what the numbers on each side will be for the event to determine Battle plans for it www.gwhsww1.org/GWHS%20Event%20Registration%20Form1.pdf

Lay Out of Sectors and Units in them ....
As you are looking at the CP front lines from the Allied point of view the British Expeditionary Forces / Commonwealth Forces Sector will be on the right of the line, American Expeditionary Forces and Others in the center and Bataillon Français on the left.
Bataillon Français Sector will be sectioned off as follows: to the far left will be La Legion Russe, Russian Expeditionary Force, next to them in the center 19° e 20° Reggimento Fanteria, Brigada Brescia, 2° Corpo d' Armata Italiano and to right of them the 151ème Régiment d'Infanterie de Ligne
In the American Expeditionary Forces and Others which will consist of the Co. K, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division, AEF on left, 45th Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, AEF (center) and 66th Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, AEF (on right) with room to add in additional units in that sector.
British Expeditionary Forces / Commonwealth Forces Sector will be sectioned off as follows: to the left will be the Canadian units, the 42nd Battalion, Black Watch, Royal Highlanders of Canada, Canadian Expeditionary Force and 10th Battalion, 1st Canadian Division, Canadian Expeditionary Force respectively, to right of them the 15th Scottish Division, British Expeditionary Force, to right of them the Royal Marine Light Infantry, British Expeditionary Force followed by A Company, 2nd Battalion, Lancashire Fusiliers, British Expeditionary Force at the end of the right trench line.
There will be room to expand new units as needed into each sector but the units above right now have priority in those sectors for MG/Mortar pits, bunkers, etc. which will be built as time goes along. Each unit right now wil be alloted a firebay of thier own as we build the trenches out in time.
Just remember this for this up-coming event, we probably might have two or three firebays depending on back hoe time alloted to each groups front-line and how long it takes to do them. They are not the final firebays into the whole trench system so they are not belonging to any sector at this time and will be used by all Allied guys at the event. We are hoping to have 3 firebays so each sector can man one firebay for the event and get used to working together in the order above depending on which units come to the event.
