I have had a WWI era helmet for over 50 years that I traded a kid in our neighborhood back in the 50's. I am in contact with him again and I am going to return to him. I think it was his Dad's. My question is what era it is from. Has a screw in the top that holds an aluminum bracket inside the liner (leather) attaches to. Has a "8A" marking on the inside rim. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like a Kelly conversion. Those were done in the mid-1930s.
