I don't know if anyone in GWHS heard of this: A Via Ferrata (Iron Way) is a protected mountain path (climbing safe without ropes) in the Dolomites (and elsewhere) that were built during the Great War to facilitate movement of troops in and around the mountain passes between Tirol, Sud Tirol and the Italian Alps. The link below is one site that includes original fighting positions that are still maintained in the mountains as "mini museums" that climbers can access while climbing!
