1910 Pattern Mess Kit - Cavalry Version

Here's an example of the cavalry version of the 1910 mess kit or kochgeschirr. Like it's prewar infantry cousin, this model was made of aluminum but left unpainted since it was designed to be carried in a leather case that was strapped to the saddle. This particular example was issued to a trooper in the 2nd Chevauleger.

This is a pretty rare example and not often seen.

Adam,
The Cav and Inf both used the same mess tin. The one you have pictured was the standard M1910 according to my books. It was not until 1915 the that design changed to the more common one we all know. You are correct about the paint job however. My M1910 is just like the one pictured but is black.

Yep, 1910, my mistake. Yes, they're both identical except the cavalry version came unpainted- perhaps I was misleading in saying that there were two different models.
