From the spec numbers and dates it was first issued in 1898 in black calf as a dress shoe. In 1904 issued as both the russet marching shoe and black dress shoe. It still shows as black in the 1906 QMD color plates. Modified for the Munson last in 1912. Modified again in 1916 for chrome tanned leather. Only the russet shows up in the 1916 QM manual. The 1916 manual shows this as the only shoe issued
