I recently found a deal on an Gew 98 off of GB. It is a Mauser Obendorf 1918 that has seen service with the Turks. It has a replacement late war/ turkish stock with the take down in the butt, and I was hoping to use it for 1914 thru 1918 events so I pulled the barrel and got the reciever back in the white, and the search was on for one of the earlier stocks with the unit disc in the stock. Found one at Numrich, it was a snug fit, and I had to drill the hole for the bayonet lug pin, and a hole for the screw for the stock disc, and I got a stock disc from IMA. Before: After: Christian

Looks pretty good BUT I hate to rain on your parade. Personally I could not use a 1918 gun for a 1914 impression (its the anal retentive factor in me). I just did a similar project on my 1910 Gew )proper stock with unit marking and refinish all metal parts) Don't forget to stamp your unit info into the ID Disk before you install it into the stock. -if you don't have the stamps, I'd be more than happy to do it for you if you just mail it out to me. You do have a few issues in regards to what is supposed to be blued and what in not. Your sling is also on improperly. If you really want to do it right Blue EVERYTHING except for the rear sight base (with the numbers) and the receiver, bolt & rear receiver area. The bolt stop is the exception as that is the only blued piece in that part of the gun. A great reference for all of this is at: www.amazon.com/Rifle-Carbine-98-Firearms-German/dp/390252605X/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1324915855&sr=8-2Its VERY expensive but worth every penny if you want to do your G98 right. Hope this helps, (I didn't mean to come off as a dick, just trying to help out the hobby Thats why I'm the authenticity officer ;D Dan

Dan; No problem, it is a work in progress, and a good reference for what needs to be done. Thanks; Christian
