There are many examples of trench art lighters, made out of rifle casings, or shell casings, bits of brass and other metals. But where did the soldiers scrounge the striker wheel assemblies?
I can see how to fabricate many of the other parts, but can't figure out how one would scratch fab a striker wheel, flint tube and spring, etc. Or did they just cannibalize other broken lighters?
Anyone have any info on where the bits would come from?

I believe some or all such items could be bought as 'spares' - they certainly could be after the war (at least theycould, according to my late father).
Any help?
