In my years of collecting and trying to learn more about German uniforms, I've constantly come accross items marked with cloth labels giving the owner's name, rank, and unit.
There seem to be several styles, all pretty similiar in size and format. I used one as a model to make some for my impression by setting up the artwork on Coreldraw and then using that to have a rubber stamp made up. I have found that white muslin is a good material and I use specially formulated laundry ink. It's a little expensive to set up initially but the actual rubber stamps are pretty reasonable and others in the unit were able to benefit. Here's mine:
