Hi Christian, The WWI pattern canteen is a completely different beast from its M1931 counterpart or any "Political canteen". There is no way to take a WW2 canteen and try to use it for WWI. They are just too different. The prewar M1907 had a screwtop lid (this is where some folks think a screw top WW2 pattern will work but it a completely different design and shape.) The M1915 canteen (most common) had a cork stopper. If you want to get a canteen, you have to get a repro from Schipperfabrik (and even that needs some minor tweeking) or get a restored Original. PS: If you want a proper canteen, I have an original M1915 I am restoring. Please contact me if you are interested. wkoliwer@yahoo.com

Guys; I got a 1915 dated cork stopper canteen at an event Sat. that is saveable. It needs the usual, new cork, cover and leather straps. I have found a source for the cork set, but does anyone make the cover and leather straps? Can a WWII canteen cover be used, or are they the wrong size? Christian

Hi Christian, I can help you out on a full rebuild. I've done lots of them. (just sold three at our last event). The place that has the repro corks is out indefinitely (Historical Reprodictions) but I've figured out a way to reuse the old parts. Shoot me an email and we can talk further Cheers Dan IR 23 Authenticity Officer & XO wkoliwer@yahoo.com
PS: You can't use a WW2 cover on a WWI canteen.
