Were these used in WWI? I have been offered a replica in a trade, and was wondering if this would work for an infantryman in 1917-18? Thanks; Christian

They were used in WWI but were VERY, VERY rare indeed. Remember we are portraying the BASIC soldiers of the different armies and using stuff like this is best for living history event such as time-line ones where you can show off the different neato stuff but in the battle reenactments you want to use the 'common' items that the soldiers used, you want to be 'uniform'. Christian,
The "crank handle" bayonet was one of the ersatz bayonets used during WWI. It was designed to fit the GEW98 rifle, and served as both a bayonet and a trench knife. The maker was DEMAG, and these are sometimes referred to as the "DEMAG bayonet/knife".

Patrick I asked about those replicas a while ago and our AO takes the same stance as Patrick stated. Used yes, but not common enough to carried. A no-go for IR23.
