Temperatures inside could reach 100+ degrees, there were many accounts of men passing out due to exhaustion, dehrydration, fumes from the engines and all that SPLASH from hits on the armor. An excellent book on British tanks is Devils Chariots Patrick

An early British Mark IV Tank quickly went from room temperature to about 96 degrees fahrenheit in about 6 minutes. But, once you were on duty/ in combat in these things you didn't really notice the heat you were to busy running it. Tanks all throughout WW1 had trouble staying operational. So once they broke down you had to bail out quick and run cause the tank might implode with you in it, cause of the rapid heat build up. Still, with all that said, I'd rather be in a sturdy british tank than out in the open in the middle of No-Mans-Land.

The most important location to visit if you require any information about British Tanks of the Great War, is The Tank Museum, Bovington, Dorset, England... Birthplace of the the 'Tank', and home of The Royal Armoured Corps
Information enquiries can be forwarded by email to:- librarian@tankmuseum.org
Or.. by snailmail to:- The Archive & Reference Library The Tank Museum Bovington Dorset BH20-6JG England.
The Tank Museums collection of period originals is second-to-none!

Seph, when you move back here from England. You have to bring a Mark IV tank with you for our reenactments!

Don't think I can get a carry-on big enough for it!? However, I can get a set of 'Blueprints' ;-)

Oh bugga! Well blueprints would work just as well, mind you we'd 'ave to work a bit more. But it'd be worth it!
