if the marines didnt have the EGA discs during the war for there colar did they use the army discs or no discs at all

Dallas, I was in the 45th for good number of years and during my research I found that Marines did not use the collar discs in any real numbers until after the war. Officers may have had them issued but I don't really remember for sure.
A good late war impression for a US Marine would be to have a complete head-to-toe Army impression minus any Army insignia. What seemed to be somewhat prevalent was the practice of taking USMC buttons off their old uniforms and putting them on the newly issued Army replacement uniform and even then you can just leave the Army buttons and be totally correct.
Along the lines of insignia...leave off any EGAs on your helmet. It was something that was popularized by the Charles Waterhouse drawings. Not to say it was never done, but photographic evidence shows almost nothing of this practice. It was more common to have them put on after the war as well as painting the divisional insignia as well.
