Hello,
As I'm getting my budget together for my first WW1 impression I'm looking at the different boot manufacturers.
Does anyone here have the Ammo Boots from Civil War Boots? Good quality? How has the sizing been? I wear a 10 1/2 US normally but with my Fred Flintstone-esque wide flat feet I sometimes need an 11 or 11 1/2.
I'm sending an email to the mfg as well, but always like to hear from end users ;D

What you do is send Tom an outline trace of your foot this way he has the EXACT size of your foot and can make them custom for you. Tom made my CW brogans for me 20+ years ago when he used to live here in NM, they are still ticking and in wonderful shape after all the reenactments they had gone through. Only thing I had to have replaced is the soles after a reenactment at Pea Ridge, AR when they came off after the MUD there sucked them in to the ground, that was one WET event, since then they have been OK. I am going to have to get them resoled again one day, they are starting to wear out again. Patrick

I have two pairs of boots from Tom Mattimore (both US, one for Span Am and the other WWI) and they have served me well with no issues. It's a good idea to take the time and call him to discuss your needs- it's worth the time.

Just a mention - the British army switched to brown in 1902 but by the start of the war they were back to experimenting with black. By late war - which is what we re-enact at Ozena a large number were black.
I believe Mattimore's boots are available in either brown or undyed - so for the sake of, well, uniformity, they would have to be polished black (at least once) for the LF impression.

Holle "ptenelson",
Just out of interest, what impression are you putting together? I note that John Harmon has mentioned the Lancashire Fusiliers. Please be aware that, if you are putting together a Lancashire Fusiliers impression, the correct pattern of boot is required. American period issue / pattern is not correct / accepted.

I have a pair of AH boots from Civil War Boots--they are the correct pattern, very rugged and well made. Kudos to Tom Mattimore for being willing to produce rather obscure footwear!
