This may be the wrong section to post this in, my apologizes if it isn't in the right one. Anywho, I've been doing some research about Pacific land engagements during 1914 for fun. In my research I came along a wikipedia article about the Fanning Raid. But it didn't came up with any date for the raid. I tried looking it up in my WW1 books, but find no mention of it. Was this a real event? If so, what date did it take place on? Thanks for any help you guys can give me. I try to be the best WW1 expert I can be.

Well - not exactly a major battle. Did find a reference (A Naval History or WW1 by Paul G. Halpern) that sites a date of 7 September 1914:
The Nurnburg rejoined Spee at sea on 6 September , and he detatched the cruiser along with the tender Titania to cut the cable between Fiji and Honolulu at Fanning Island. The Nurnburg , wearing a French ensign when she approaced the island, accomplished this on 7 September and rejoined the squadron the following day at Christmas Island.

Yeah... Where would you have posted it?
Oh, jolly good show ol' boy! Thank you John (?).
This is what I had, " The Fanning Raid was an action of the First World War. The British All Red Line cable station on Fanning Island was raided by Germany's SMS Nürnberg and SMS Titania. A German landing party was sent ashore, to cut the communications cable. But meet resistance for a short while from a New Zealand unit stationed there. However, the Germans were still victorious and made it back to their ship."
