Guys; My impression is coming along well, and so far have a basic set up minus the boots. My problem is that we have an event set pretty soon and I was wondering if there are any alternatives to German boots?
I have a pair of WPG Brit low boots with no toe cap, and have read that the Germans liked Brit boots, and was wondering if these would be OK until I can get the right boots. I also have a pair of ATF jackboots for WWII, but not sure about them for WWI.
What is the general consensus on what is OK, until I can get the right ones. Thanks; Christian

Well, it's not too far of a stretch to assume that Germans snagged whatever boots they could, when they could, but I can't point you to any photo evidence on the Brit stuff. As you know a big reason for the St. Michael offensive to fail was the troops stopping to raid everything they could once they steamrolled the allied lines. Common sense dictates that if you boots are wasted and you just came across huge stores of supplies, you're going shopping! But that is an assumption.
The ATF jackboots are an ok temporary measure, but I wouldn't buy them as a permanent solution to your impression. The safest thing to do is get the ATF lowboots. They're not the greatest boot ever made, but the pattern is close to the WWI lowboot. If you are doing a later war impression, I'd invest some money in a decent set of WW2 German lowboots.

Hi Christian, Order a pair of Jackboots from Robert Land. He is in Canada and can have a pair of proper m1886 Jacks to you in 6 weeks. I ordered a pair in Mid November and they are going out to me this week. They run $267 including shipping. We are moving away from the WW2 German Jacks as good repro WWI boots are now available, so leave your WW2 ones at home. Another alternative, like Marcus mentioned, is to order a pair of ATF lowboots which are SUPER similar to their WWI counterpart (unlike the jacks). If worst comes to worst use those Brit boots of yours for one event. Hope this helps Dan Authenticity Officer
