This is something I came accross on "The Trench Line" for researching individual French soldiers during WWI. This is from the French Ministryof Defense: www.memoiredeshommes.sga.defense.gouv.fr/index_en.htmThe database includes : * Soldiers who died for France during World War I * Ground and flight staff of the aeronautical forces during World War I * Soldiers who died for France in Indochina (1945-1954) * List of Resistance fighters and hostages shot by the Nazi on Mont Valérien during World War II * Soldiers who died for France in Northern Africa (1952-1962) Concerning Soldiers who died for France during World War I, this database gives access to informations about more than 1,3 millions soldiers who died during World War I and obtained the special distinction " killed in action " (in french " Mort pour la France "). This information was recorded by French war veterans administration just after the war. This database is the result of the digitalization and indexation of these records nowadays preserved by the ministry of defence (direction of memory, heritage and archives). The " Mort pour la France" distinction is granted under the terms of the invalidity pensions and war victims code. Contents of the database The records deliver the following informations : surname ; first name ; birth and death dates ; places of birth and death ; rank ; corps ; recruitment place ; recruitment and regimental number ; date and place of death certificate ; circumstances of death.
