Walt,
Paul is a veteran as well and still serving. The Army is his primary gig. He deployed to Djibouti not too long ago.

Schipper's uniforms also come with shoulder boards. I forgot about that. That is another expense you have to plan on with Hessen's.

Kameraden,
It's great to see the discussion on our new uniforms, that's what these forums are for.
Yes, our WWI Tunics and Trouser are made in China. The quality of Chinese goods runs from crap to excellent, just look around your house and in your own closets. It all depends who is making what. The people who make our uniforms are all professional tailors. We use custom milled wool and our own custom made buttons. Since retiring from the US Army in 2007 I've been to China four times to work on these and other uniform projects at the factory and I am very happy with the quality of the product we are providing.
I would love to be able to have uniforms made in the USA but that is almost impossible these days. I can’t tell you where the other two WWI vendor’s uniforms are made. I don’t see “Made in USA” tags on their products and they don’t disclose where their uniforms are made.
I've owned uniforms from the other two WWI vendors and they both provide good, quality products. Our German WWI uniforms are just as good.
My wife and I started Hessen Antique in 2002. We only sold refurbished helmets and original equipment along with German antiques. We gradually include reproduction gear and uniforms based on our customers requests. Today we are one of the top vendors to WWII German reenactors with over 3500 customers world-wide. In 2006 we started selling Pickelhaube and became the exclusive US importer of German made Visor Caps and Krätzchen. Many of you requested we produce WWI German uniforms and now here they are.
We’ve almost sold out of the first run. These were well received at Newville and our new and improved second run will be finished this summer. We’ll continue to expand and refine our products based on feedback from you, our customers.
Thanks for the feedback and please feel free to contact us if you have any questions about our products or services.
Horrido!
